Heart Lake Geyser Basin, Summer 2015
In the summer of 2015 we headed to the Heart Lake Geyser Basin in the southern part of YNP for a 5-day camping-science trip. Then we returned a few weeks later for a day trip. This area of Yellowstone is interesting because the thermal springs are alkaline (high pH, kinda like baking soda). We collected gases, fluids, and thermally altered sediments from several hot springs in the area, and many different groups are researching these samples.
